On 29 November, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Asif Ali Zardari met for a second time in the last eight days to discuss the PTI’s decision to dissolve of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assemblies. According to the PMO, the meeting between the two leaders took place in order to discuss the possible political crisis and find a future course of action. According to Dawn, PM Shehbaz Sherif also assigned Zardari to re-establish the PDM government in Punjab.
Imran Khan meets Punjab Speaker
On 29 November, Imran Khan met the Punjab assembly Speaker instead of the scheduled meeting with Parvez Elahi as Imran Khan hinted that both parties were not in sync. The PML-N and PPP of Punjab assembly accelerated their efforts to save the provincial assembly from dissolution.They agreed to establish contacts with the PTI to prevent the ruling party dissolve the assembly.
A scheduled meeting was supposed to be held between Parvez Elahi and Imran Khan, but instead, the speaker met Imran Khan giving rise to speculation that he carried a message from the CM counselling restraint and not to rush into dissolving the provincial assembly. After the meeting, the speaker claimed the opposition could not move a no-confidence motion and there were “zero chances” of the imposition of the governor’s rule also. He added that even if the motion was tabled, the opposition would need 186 members to have it passed. Further, the speaker said no backdoor contacts were underway between the government and the PTI.
